Sorry for replying to an older post, but I just bought a used JW 1/3 JW Sopwith Tripe and have no clue where to balance it. Where is the CG?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I did several search's for JW Models but couldn't come up with any info about the manufacturer.

I will e-mail him! Do you have link to his website?

Thanks!
Peter

Hi Peter! Prop Triplane up with stab level. Use incidence meter. Measure LE vertically to workbench. Measure TE vertically to workbench. Between these points is your MAC for this model. 25% from LE should be conservative C of G. Make up a Vanessa rig to actually balance it and make it balance slightly nose down. Did you finish your D-VII? Regards, Michael

P.S.- you can contact Vogelsang Aeroscale for this, too.

My Buddy John built one but he is out of the Country at the moment.
He will probably see this post on his return.

Thanks Michael! Before I posted I thought about calculating it, like you said, but with a triplane I wasn't positive I'd have the right answer. I did get a reply to an e-mail I sent to Vogelsang and he sent me a copy of the manual today which has the CG and wrote the kit maker thanks to the e-mail provided by "Teus" and did get a reply. Jorg said the CG should be 30% back from the leading edge of the middle wing., which corresponds to a black mark on the underside of the starboard middle wing. Because the mark was only on one wing I wasn't sure if it was marked for the CG or just a random mark.
Thanks again!
Pete
