Hello everyone, I hope you are all safe and well. After many years I have decided to take the plunge in to RC scale modeling, something I wanted to do as a kid but never got the opportunity. The the current situation here, I have some spare time on my hand so it was an idea time to make a start. I have bought a Dancing Wings Hobby Fokker DR1 triplane kit as my 1st go and here I can only imagine what you gentil beings are thinking  . There are a few reasons for my choice but the main reason is there seems to be a huge shortage of kits here in the UK and I wanted a laser cut kit kit to ease myself in and it was the only one I could get. I do however have a small amount of RC experience (I build an Align TRex heli a couple of years ago) and as an engineer I am used to following plans. The kit is due to arrive at the start of December and the other stuff I think I need to be turning up in the weeks to follow. I am sure there will be many questions and I hope you kind people will not mind helping me out. Looking forward to chatting with you all and for now stay safe

I appreciate your choice of model, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE begin your flying experience with a trainer! There are still several good kits available (and it will help you get used to the various glues we use, plus covering). You did not mention the scale or wingspan of the DR1, but I would suggest a trainer with a wingspan of at least 60 inches. Bigger flies better.
Welcome again and be sure to start a build thread on the Fokker!

Hi Gizmo Cat, +1 what has been said above! I actually fly a 1/3 scale Fokker DVI which has a very similar fuselage to the DR1 but only 2 wings and that is not the easiest bird to fly, the DR1 is about the same. I'm based in Staffordshire and welcome a chat anytime!

Many thanks for the welcome. The scale is 1/4 so quite a big beast. The plan will be to get the build under way over Xmas holidays and wait for the new season to start before joining a club. I then would like to get a basic almost built trainer for flight training while the Fokker is being built. I am under no illusion that it is going to take a while to build  I am just off J28 of the M1 so not a million miles away from Cary (used to work in Stone a few years ago). I have already stocked up on glues, I have a selection of medium super glue, gorilla wood glue and epoxy. Clamps and other assorted hardware is on order along with the motor and esc. If you are interested I will be fitting a Tornado Thumper V3 5065/08 320KV motor with an OverlanderXP2 80ASBEC ESC. These were recommended by the model shop. I have not ordered batteries yet. I also have decided not to go with the red scheme and have got olive drab Oratex for the covering. On a lighter note, I used to fly Helicopers so how hard can a plane be? I also have a DJI drone but that doesn't count.
I may start a build thread when I get underway with photos so you guys can point out where I'm going wrong.

Hi Andy, haha I live 6 miles from Stone, my Mum lives there! I imagine if you worked in Stone you probably worked for ABB?
A fixed wing can be hard work as they fly away from you!!
As you live near J28 you are not far from Derby and I’m a member of a club that is not far from there! Let me know and I can introduce you!
Get a build thread going as we can all help you if you need it
