Hemostats...why didn't you say so!
It points out that a lot of tools, equipment, etc.
that wasn't originally meant for hobbyists can
be adapted to our use. I'm sure the guy who
invented "hemostats" () didn't think of them
as something to pinch off model engine fuel lines, for instance.
Or a fish scale for weighing planes....etc. etc.

Or a fish scale for weighing planes..

They are very useful, none of my planes, with the exception of the half scale Blackburn, weigh more that 50 pounds.

... to continue the work on the plate replacement on the left spat ...

The plate bed (inside and outside faces) has been masked off as it is to be sprayed with contact cement. If you spray this stuff without masking you will make a right old mess.

This is the industrial strength spray on that is used. It is a 3M "high strength" product. #94.

The litho plate was made with the aid of a paper pattern. The spine was the only region to be annealed with the gas torch. This was because the spine is curved very slightly in the vertical plane.

The plate was pressed carefully on after the 4 min drying period passed. In this shot it does look a pit pitted and bashed. The newly punched rivets look a bit better.

The plastic metal has been sanded back and a bit of Red Stop has been added for good measure.

A final rub back with 400 wet will be done prior to the primer and paint as per usual.

Lunch time. Roast beef on rye with horse radish sauce, and, of course the coffee of the day which is Kenya medium grind.

Cheers

Ken

Thanks, Guys.

Here is what we got ...

Now that last one is a doozy  ... can not see a thing

You will have to trust me ... the inside surface is much the same as the outside in quality.

All that remains for this little patch up job is to come back in a couple of days to cut and polish the paint so as it looks like a Steinway finish.
You can just see a couple of small scuffed areas where the 400 has done its over work on the old paint. That is easy to fix.

Bed time.

Night, All.

Ken

Hi All,

Well, it's "check wings day".

I dragged the wings from under the house. They were in wing bags, thank goodness as the dust was something else.

They were given a quick dust down, nontheless and taken into the shop. well, there was no way I could put both wings on ...

The root rib end where you can make out the steel tube holes in the rib which take the moly tubes sticking out of the cabin. She's a thin sectioned wing an can fly like a rocket when she has to. The slats were workable but are now screwed down shut. They were of little help in STOL activities. The flaps did just fine on their own.

The right wing was slid on to its poles and the electrics coupled up ... flaps and aileron.

The massive wing struts were bolted on, and Tx and RX were switched on. Flaps and aileron worked well.

Sorry that the pics are crummy, but they do give you an idea of how big she is.

The wing was removed, the table wheeled over the room and the left wing and strut was bolted on. Again all worked well.

As I will not be able to fly her for a couple of months with this self isolation thing that we all must and should do, I will put her back in storage and get on with the Ki-45 project.

The "show your stuff" postings will all be removed by the administrators within 60 days, I think it is.

Thanks for coming along for the ride, and thanks for all of you that offered opinions; always good to hear be they positive or negative.

Be kind, and take care.

Cheers

Ken
