I switched to 2.4GHz in 2008 by means of a Futaba FX-30.

Then in 2013 I switched again to the Jeti DC-16.
I don't expect to switch to anything anytime soon.

Danny

Just have 2 2.4s, both came with a micro plane, one a P-51, and the other with a micro Albatross.

Forest, I'm glad to hear you avoided loosing any big planes due to radiotrouble.

Nothing beats that feeling. To see all your work just diving into the ground.

But the skiy is brighter than ever now!

Got the TF Fw-190 and Sist 190 D9 ready in the car, waiting for spring. And a new ESM 50 cc Corsair soon ready.

Repairing the gear of an ESM Stuka now (using Black Horse gear on the ESM Stuka) and then putting an FG-84 into
the Vailly Fw-190.

Then back on the Platinum 109.

Yes, looking forward to the spring.

I'm not an 'early adopter' so I went 2.4 relatively late.

I have not retired my JR gear on 36 Mhz because it worked perfectly before & continues to do so.

Having said that every new model I build is on 2.4 using a Futaba 12C, 14 channel radio and I won't

be buying any more 36 Mhz gear, it seems like it's not available in Australia anyway.

The change to 2.4 meant a complete change of receivers & stuff & I wasn't convinced that the Spektrum

system JR was using was foolproof hence the change to Futaba.

As for sticking with 36 Mhz for some models, I believe the adoption of 2.4 equipment has been the biggest

improvement to safety yet for 36 Mhz equipment because very few people still use it meaning the biggest fault with 36 Mhz, the chances of getting shot down by someone on your frequency are next to nil, even the 'toy aeroplanes' use 2.4 these days.

I "switched" to XPS a couple years ago, relatively trouble free.  I got a module and  a couple of the Nanno 6-channel Rx - just recently got a couple more plus the X-10+ channel expander which has a lot of capabilities and allows the Rx or an RFU to be placed where it can get good signal.  The X-10+ is NOT a Rx - it needs a separate Rx and if you do it correctly you can add the channels on the Rx to those on the X-10+ and assign any channel to any port, adjust endpoints, lots of other stuff - and right now he is testing for multiple Rx (or RFU) - both connected to the X-10+ - since it is not a receiver it is not affected if one of the connected Rx's loses signal, it simply looks at the other connected Rx.  If both are bad then it goes into the user-programmed failsafe sequence.

Denny Friesel has XPS nannos in his zirolli corsair with no problems, that's a good enough reference for me!

I changed to 2.4 with a Fut 14mzh.  To me its a good choice.  Attending large events etc. can be a problem on 72mhz.  So while 2.4 isn't perfect (what is?) its pretty good for most.

I'm currently in the process of buying a new house in a new state. Money is going to be tight for a while, so except for the couple micro RC planes I have, I'm going to be using 72 for several more years, at least.

I have one newer Airtronics RDS8000 2.4 radio and two older radios on 72 Mhz.  I like my RDS8000, but, don't feel a need to give up on my older equipment, ust yet.
