I just got lucky and found it straight away, searching around the 1932 era.  I like popping into this forum and doing a bit of quick research - it's a great educational exercise.

Apparently the R31 was an evil handling thing, belying it's looks.

Ok, mine should be easy.

1.  Construction technique way ahead of its time

2.  Successful racing aircraft

3.  Speed record breaker

Sorry , not sure which " Deperdussin " to post a picture of.?  So heres a few clues to get started.

 1 - single bay biplane
2 - early version was of wood & fabric construction.
3 - later most pruduced version was redesigned as an all metal construction
 4 - single seat
 5 - first flight 1919
6 - fixed conventional landing gear
 7 - radial engine , air cooled

This one - the 1912 Monocoque.  An amazing piece of engineering for 1912.

Won the Gordon B two years in a row and broke the record at 130mph.
