I’ve seen several renditions with different nose and tail colors..white, dark green and light blue.. still a nice color scheme.

It's a real challenge to get the "absolute" details of the WWI schemes as there was no color photography. Only the factory colors are known. The local unit markings were many variations in color and from the condition of some of the paint in the old pictures, the local paint may have been poor quality.

That also means you can have a little fun with color schemes and if you are competing in a scale event, only use black and white pictures to confirm the layout of the scheme and have fun with the color.

The Pfalz had a lot of schemes to use.

I still find it amusing that profi modelers still shy away from doing things by hand, and instead resort to all the work of masking and or having masks made.
Lets be brave now lads.....simply take a pencil and very lightly start laying down a line by hand, maybe measuring out to scale, compared to your photo, and making a few reference marks
at the right points.
This is really a very simple exercise. Do you think they used a mask in the field and sprayed the snake on ???.....
You're taking all the fun out of hand painting and learning a new skill.....get yourself a self a few small red sable brushes with pointed tips and have a go at it....and try to stay within the lines !

Or the other thing that cracks me up:  Absolute master scale craftsmen who seem capable of doing anything, will, when it comes to painting a dummy pilot or personal insignia ask "the little woman" to do it.  Seriously guys, it's time to up our game and show we can be as good as the women!

How about messing with the judges by presenting them with only B/W documentation and painting the entire model only black, white, and grey tones to match the documentation photos.

How about getting a camera like this and take pictures of you model and have it painted so its black and white image matches the ones in the history books.
