Been looking at the various color schemes for the Pfalz in the Osprey Aircraft of Aces #71. Page 39 has an illustration of marking for Kest 8w, plane of Carol Bucker (illustration 28).This group had a neat serpent wrapped around the fuselage behind the cockpit.

Anyway, take a look at the illustration below and tell me how to mask off for this configuration: (maybe I can get a stencil from Callie Graphics)

Hello Ed that one is being done by my partner Joey, he’s getting close to painting the base color and I believe he’s got an idea on laying out the snake

Hint!

Follow the snake's body around the fuselage and tell me what's wrong.

I think I would get a large role of 3M fine linr tape , 1/8 in green. and lay it out by hand.

I can imagine the e Mail to Callie.........
Dear Callie,  errrr, please send me a tubular serpent mask.............

The plastic model guys have this scheme in a decal set I think Joey blew it up and made. Paper template. The decal sheet has the snake in 3 pieces. Perhaps he’s tied in a knot on the other side...??

Answer: The snake's tail should come up from the bottom of the fusleage. There are black and white pictures in the book that show it that way. The color illustration is wrong.

Also, it looks like different members of the jasta had different number of wraps of the snake.

Although the knot sounds good to me!
