Hello! My name is Gunnar and I just become a site supporter. I've been flying rc for over 10 years but I've never built one by myself. The last plane I built was a little aerodrome rc fokkerD7 which my dad (DaddySam) helped me build (turned out great love that plane!!)
I have a buddy that bought the large T28 from e flite I maidened it for him and that got me thinking that I really do need to build myself a 1/5-1/6 scale warbird. So I am looking for a "easier" warbird kit or short kit from a good plans designer or kit manufacture. I was looking at FokkerRC and jerry bates plans
Once I get that underway I've wanted to build a 1/5 Macchi 200.
So a little bit about me, I'm married, wife should be done with college next June, she's studying elementary education. I work at Costco Wholesale. I fly with the bayou city flyers out in Katy Texas (suburb of Houston really). We have a 1 year old Persian cat and a 1 year old pug. No kids yet. I also enjoy a fine cigar or good pipe and excellent beer.

I would suggest aTop Flite kit for your first build as it would be a complete kit with good plans and instruction book. Some of your other kits such as a Fokker R/C would be a very difficult build as there are very limited instructions if any. A lot of your designers plans are more for the experianced or advanced builder.

I second the T/F recommendation of Patrick's. I would suggest the T/F Giant P-47 kit. The instruction book contains many photos showing virtually every step of the build. It flies and lands very nicely. I have also built several of the T/F Giant Corsairs but they are a more difficult build but again, the instructions and photos are very good.
The T/F .60 size Gold Edition is also a very good build and flyer. Less demanding of the billfold.

I have not had personal experiance with the P-40. I have heard from club members that the P- 40 is a nice flying plane. Maybe someone can chime in on the P-40 but the P-47 is a very tame and predictable bird. That would be my choice. I have the P-47 giant scale bird, good luck...

Gunnar, I think the P47 would be a better choice as it has much better ground manners than the P40. I agree that TF makes a great beginner's build kit with good instructions.

+1 on the TF P47. Everyone I know who has one or has flown one are very happy with all the flying and landing characteristics.

The P40 has a narrow track landing gear and can be a handful on the ground. Also the available retracts for the 60 size are just OK.
