Hi Greg,

Welcome! Both planes are a nice subject. Since others mentioned the CL415 water bomber I am providing you the link to the PBY Catalina build thread. As you will see the build is well documented:

As an added bonus you can also meet the author (SWEEPER) in the chat room should you need some of his experience. Nice guy!

Reuben

Thanks for the link Reuben. I'm in awe of people who take on a project of that size.  And he did a fantastic job of it too.

Thanks Jed.  Look forward to seeing it.  I think I'll end up with the same CL415 package you have rather than the PBY. Not sure I'll go with the water bomb feature but I'll definitely have the retracts.

Cheers,

Greg

Greg,

Here are a few pics of what I have built.

The gear are built to the supplied plan. The struts are modified 1/2 inch robart and the wheel is also robart.

It use big BVM rams down low, you can barely see them under the smaller Robarts. The smaller are the gear over center lock outs.

Nose is a standard robart.

My own design of the water scoops. You can build the tank yourself without buying his.

Cheers,

Thanks for the photos Jed.  Nice work.  Unfortunately it will be a while before I can start. Perhaps we can correspond when I get a bit closer to it.  I'd be interested in your thoughts on engines.  I was thinking about a pair of OS FSa 81ps for this.

Lindsay Thanks!

Greg,

That would be fine just shooot me a PM. I know the plane was made for an .46 glow like an O.S. When I finally get around to finishing mine, I'm going to use .46 size electrics, like a rimfire or similar.

Cheers,
