Hello from Lakeland Tn. I'm rediscovering the RC world. I retired a few years back and took time to build a workshop. I have been a builder for 40 years. Sadly my BIL passed away 15 months ago and most of my time has been flipping his house. Barry was a old school giant plane balsa wood building bad boy and the wife and I inherited his hobby. Now my Man Cave has become my hobby shop. Barry left me over 80 different kits and all different sizes. Everything from RTF, ARF, Balsa kits, Gliders to rubber band and all the goodies to go with them. A lifetime of collecting. I still haven't had a chance to go through everything. I ask everyone to be patient with me please, I built my first plane in 1970, it was a FBW 10 years later I got into RC cars. Did a term in the Air Force, met my wife in 1990 and we moved from Dallas to Memphis in 95 to take care of family. Now it's just us and I think I want to honor my brother in law by building some of his planes. Now we have nothing but time. . Mike

Welcome aboard...we sail at 8 pm. Sounds like the BIL had a wide interest in aviation modeling. We have the likes of scratch designed scale modelers of 12" w/s to 220" w/s onboard. You'll find your favorites from all around the world 24/7.
I am originally from Kingsport on the opposite end of Tennessee...now in Houston.

Thanks Ed, Kingsport is some beautiful country, been through there and Houston also. Barry wasn't hurting, he was the National sales Mang. for DAP (the caulk people) He did a stint in Nam as a gun mech. for the 47, Puff. If he wanted he bought two. I have so many vintage kits I don't know where to start. best one so far is the Proctor Curtiss JN4~D2 Jenny. Unreal kit. Mike

Mike,
You might want to make the Proctor a long term project as it takes patience...not difficult, but not to be rushed either. Would make for an excellent electric project since the dummy engine would not be in conflict with a recip.

Welcome to RCSB! I think the Proctor would not be my first build. Are you planning to fly the models when finished building? Do have any RC Model experience? If you want to fly with no background in flying a R/C model. I suggest looking at the ARF’s for a trainer sort of model. If you could give us a list of airplane kits that you have we might be of some assistance. Sparky

I agree 100% on the proctor not going to be my first build. I have been building models for years but the proctor is cool. BIL left me over 80 vintage, ARFs, Gliders, RTF, and the list goes on. I have OS motors 2 stroke, 4 Stroke, gallons of fuel, large stash of Elec. and batts. Thats not counting the planes that he has built, it really is overwhelming, but in a good way. He had 6 double bay tool boxes full. That was also his work bench. I keep finding engines that look like jewelry. I have already contacted a club that has a field about 20min away. Barry liked his WW11 and Bi~Planes, Piper cubs, and T28s (I have 5 big kits)3 are Picas and 2 are Hanger E Flight carbon z. Anything with a 50" WS up. I hate to say it but I have the fever and I believe I am going to have to sell some. 1 no room to store even if i live long enough to build them. 2 life is getting shorter every year. I have two little man caves one is 20x24 and I'm working on a 12x12 for storage. He also ordered plans off Ebay I have boxes of them. We found boxes that he had ordered 2 planes and never opened them. They were still in the fac. case. most of the servos I've run up on are spectrum and metal gears. I have boxes of balsa stock, leading edge, flat stock, strip stock, wing tip.... The wife and I just about have the house paid off so it looks like our full time job is going to find tax right offs. Another thing he left was a extensive library he used for reference. I have 6 4' shelves full. Sorry for the ramble like I said sometimes its overwhelming. Mike

As I said, the Proctor can be a work in process because of the detailed construction which is supported by excellent directions. Most people take more than a year to “erect” a Proctor. With what you disclosed about your previous building experience that particular kit should not be too great a challenge.
Whatever the volume of fuel… consider it all bad vs suffering downstream loss of engines and existing models. Glow fuel draws water from the atmosphere.
Look for a Spektrum battery “station”. This is going to be larger than what you would expect to find for a transmitter. I suspect from what you described you will find the operating instructions with it. All batteries “must” be prequalified before any consideration for actual in model use.
Your BIL appears to have been more organized than most if he were a hoarder…which it does not appear to be the case as it appears he had quality...not simply quantity.
I recommend you join the club with that field and seek the assistance of a club officer to help navigate through this stash. In general it sounds like most of it is in hobby shop inventory new in box. I would be cautious of selling blind of an item’s true value. Too often an estate inventory is treated with less than true value and falls victim to great loss.
Typically eBay could be a quick value gauge…low and high with a virtual instant result.
