Hello All,

Stumbled across this site; it's excellent and so glad I found it. I'm an ex-pat Australian currently working in New Guinea and really miss my tools and workshop at home! I was about a third of the way through a Staggerwing when I had to pack up.  I'm already thinking about my next project either a Canadair CL415 or a PBY Catalina.  Any suggestions for the best plans (around 2 metres in wingspan is as big as I'd like to go) for either of those would be greatly appreciated!

Why not a Junkers Tri Motor, JU 52, to capture some PNG aviation history?  I was last in Port Morsby in1989 and there was at that time, the wreckage of a JU 52 in the PNG Aviation museum. Hopefully the J 52 is still there.

Hi One wing low.  Unfortunately the JU 52 is no more.  The radio, instruments and Pratt and Whitney engines were salvaged but after sitting for some time, the remains were chopped up and used to stabilise an earthen dam. 

Has made me think though.  Maybe a P40 might be on the cards in the future.  They performed brilliantly at Milne Bay.

Thanks Jed, that looks perfect.  I quite like the landing gear arrangement to make it an amphibian. It's simpler than any of the PBY's I have seen. And a great looking plane too.

Hi Greg, sorry to learn  that about the JU 52. What sacrilege!  
I went into Milne Bay a number of times in 89 and it was always raining, minimum vis and min cloud base off the  NDB approach. Even so, managed to see the WW2 landing barges still there on the surrounding shores Remember reading the plaque at the field with the story of how the P47's were used as ground based machine gun platforms to repel the Japanese assult.
Jed's suggested 415 kit does look good.
