Finally I got something to show here. Allthough not built by me, but I did some repairs if that counts. forum image

It's scratch built by a friend in 1:4 F4C scale. Because of his age and health he gave me the task to keep it flying.

The re-maiden last summer went wrong. In a take-off run it got in a sudden and hard nose-over. After a while I concluded the stab must have been bumped loose in transport and flipped up in the take-off run. The stab's construction and position in the fin turned out be somewhat vulnerable. When repairing I managed to make it a bit more firm.

Sunday two weeks ago my friend re-maidened it for the second time succesfully and I got to fly it as well. Wednesday I had a training day with it and last Sunday our national scale contest. I wasn't very succesfull yet, still have to get used to it. forum image

Despite being a high wing, it's not a very easy flier because of Twenties' aerodynamics and a small fin. And the wheels are almost at CG, so a nose-over happens fast. It has to be landed with tail down and at touch down the elevator becomes ineffective.

I'm still doing small repairs and maintenance. I apologize for the rubber band around the cowling. forum image

What a magnificient model! And a perfect finish.

That nose is quite narrow, getting the Saito 180 in there is quite an achievement!
How is that for power on the 14 kg airframe?

I'm curious about the heat management for that engine.  I don't see much in the way of exits for airflow.

Thanks all! forum image

At first it was powered with a 36 cc gas Saito that didn't run properly, which may have been because of heat. I don't know.

The 30 cc methanol Saito however runs fine and heat is not a problem, despite the minimal airflow exit.
It easily fits the engine compartment, not a problem.
And it has enough power for the Desoutter, that is if you fly it like a Desoutter. It's far from aerobatic.

The Saito muffler has a flex pipe running to the scale exhaust on top of the cowling. Its fun to watch that smoking 'chimney'.

The engine cowling consists of different parts and piano hinges, like the real thing. It starts to fall apart a little, so I see more repairs in my future.

We had a video made to promote our national contests, in which you can see the Desoutter in action! forum image

The landing was bumpy, I know. forum image I'll do better next time. I'm still getting used to it.
