Hi folks, thought I would check in and introduce myself.

Name's Bob, I live in southeastern Va.  I used to build and fly RC airplanes back in the 70s but dropped out some time ago.  I did keep one airplane, a 1/6 Fokker DVIII I built around 1971-72.  Flew it only a few times and put it up.

I retired from civil service back in 2007, last job I was a Combat Systems Test Director, mainly working on CGs, DDGs, FFGs, MHCs, and MCMs.

During retirement I got involved in O-scale trains, target shooting/collecting WW2 firearms, and playing golf, even working at a local golf course.  Still do all 3 but have slowed down a bit, at 73yrs old I've slowed down a bit!

I was looking for something to do the other day and pulled out the DVIII from the garage.  The fuselage is still intact but the wing is busted and needs repairing.  I plan on rebuilding 1/3 of the wing then the recovering/painting/decaling begins.  I doubt I will ever fly it again, not sure how it will hold up after 50 plus years in storage.

The cool thing is I've also got a 3D printer and found a 1/9 scale Oberursel engine that I've scaled up to 1/6 and printed out.  Once I get it together it'll be mounted on the plane, also have some MGs to install.

Anyway, thanks for having me join and maybe I'll break down and try flying again!

Cool story!
I really think you should try flying again if you get the right instructor you will enjoy relearning the skills from your youth.
If it doesn't work out at least you can say you tried, instead of wondering, "what if?”

ARF’s are the way to go,  simple and less emotional baggage. Use a wireless buddy box, an electric powered electric glider will help you relearn the left-right at a slower pace.

Thanks guys!
I'm sure if I get back into things it'll be with an electric plane and while I like to build them I'd definitely get an ARF to "relearn" on!

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome

The place were artisans and craftsmen create and corroborate the fine art of model aircraft. Doesn't matter if your recovering and ARF or building a museum quality aircraft from scratch the more the better.

Thanks again everyone!
I submitted my Site Supporter payment this morning, hopefully I'll be able to post photos and do other things soon.  I have a photo somewhere of me holding the Fokker DVIII when I still had, more or less, a headful of hair!
