For years I have helped out at my clubs flying event and every year they have provided lunch with your entry fee.For the last couple of years, it has been a pizza lunch with a side of salad and dessert; before that it was a steak sandwich and at one time lasagna; so, it has been varied in the past.
I may be running the event in the near future and my thought is to move away from having the club paying to have a catered lunch and go to selling burgers, brats, hot dogs, chips, and water and therefore generating more revenue for the club and lowering the price of the entry fee.
I would like to know what you prefer to have when you attend an event when it comes to eat.
I understand it is less work to have somebody outside the club do the cooking and it would take some club manpower to do the cooking, but I know of several members who would step up to handle that.

You might look at trying to get a food truck. That is what I have done quite a bit. Then everyone has choices. Usually the truck wants a minimum sales goal. If they did not hit that then the club would make up the difference. I think we only had that happen once.

We have a club member who is REALLY into grilling so we are lucky in that regard. I don't know if it increases attendance but for a two day event it seems much appreciated. People seem to enjoy having a meal together. I've been to an event with a food truck. I felt like it was very overpriced for something that wasn't much improvement over a weenie burned on a barbeque grill. I'm totally okay with precooked pizza as far as that goes. One thing I am big on is providing plenty to drink so that people don't get dehydrated. We provide sodas or iced tea for the meal but keeping a couple of ice chests of free water is important.

Im fine with burgers, dogs, brats and sides for lunch. A catered “dinner” included with the registration fee one night is a plus, but not a deal breaker.

I have never seen any complaints with the burger and hot dogs route. We have had pizza to-go before, and also one time a members brother was the owner of a Barbecue truck. The food was super good but of course more expensive.
In the old days I actually built two different airplanes for a lottery draw.. But hour per hour burgers and dogs probably would win.. On a side note if you can make it happen, homemade ice cream can be a money maker I think...

We have been using a caterer the past 2 years for all of our events and it is working great for us.The club gets a small portion and none of the members have to prepare or work the lunch portion of the event, they get to enjoy flying, having a good time and having lunch too.
Cooking and serving are one thing but preparation also takes a lot of time and effort prior to the event.
We make most of our money from raffles and secondly from entry fees.

At regional Pylon racing in Muncie we hire the Boy Scout troop to be the turn judges and they bring a trailer set up for dogs and Burgers and maybe a Bratt, all reasonably priced. For the NAT’s pylon they brought in a food truck the first day and it was overpriced and not particularly appealing I had Chees-Mac with Pulled pork on top and then a slathering of BBQ sauce on top. I ate about a quarter and tossed it. It wasnt hot and frankly just not that good. The next day (on Monday) the food truck didn't show up for what ever reason and the AMA office staff provided Dogs and Burgers and bags of chips for all the contestants. No charge since they didn't have a food license, donations accepted. They had one location at the main site and contestants from over locations had to come over and get their lunch at our site. For me it was preferred over the food truck we had on Sunday. We did have a catered dinner in the AMA museum Sunday night ($25) that was quite good. Sparky

you lot are spoiled, our club and all events I go to all food when available is user pays.
Normally a sausage sizzle with onions, or some sort of burger. Recent event in Toowoomba for warbirds they put on an awesome breakfast, $8 I think it was.
Some clubs you can get bacon and egg roll for brekky ~ $5
