While visiting the SAN FERNANDO VALLEY FLYERS FIELD YESTERDAY, I Saw a flyer talking about Vote No for a NEW FIELD.

Apparently the City Of Los Angeles is actively proposing a "RE-IMAGINING" for the Sepulveda Flood Control Basin. Their goal is to make it into "CENTRAL PARK WEST".

Within the plan is to move the SVF field "somewhere else" (NFD)"!!!!!!!?????

The club memberships are very upset and don't know where their future lays.

2024 is a date floating around, but the political wheels are turning at a snails pace and little information is being made public.

The alleged move is a BEAUTIFICATION, for the 2028 OLYMPICS.

The Army Corp Of Engineers has final say. But nothing moves quickly in the ARMY,
unless someone calls "INCOMING".
This is NOT THAT.

A very HISTORIC flying site is on very shacky grounds.

Are you speaking of Apollo XI R/C Field or another field?

Has anyone been proactive to look into a plot of unused ground across the street..from the  SEPULVEDA BASIN SPORTS COMPLEX...
just West of the Lake Balboa Rec Center? Is this Fed property...aka Corps of Engineers?  I'm guessing YES as its a water basin
"park" (conservation area). How much $ has the club vested in the original field?.... :)

I'm guessing very little if its COE managed public lands. Is anyone in club associated with your County Commissioners? Your
Senator is your short pathway to using the COE managed property. The water park has already had an environmenal impact
study filed with the COE... :^)

How far in advance do you have to apply for a meeting with your County Commissioner's Court? ;^)

SCH Number: 2006061103
Lead Agency: City of Los Angeles
Document Title: Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex (W.O. E170217B)
Document Type: NEG - Negative Declaration
Received: 6/21/2006
Present Land Use: Open Space & Public Facility In Sepulvada Flood Control Basin/ Recreation Area
(owned by US Army Corps, leased by City of LA) probably for consideration of(1) $1.00.

Document Description:

The project would include four youth/teen softball fields, one synthetic soccer field, open multiple-purpose fields, picnic areas,
a planted riparian buffer along the Los Angeles River, and a walking trail throughout the site. There would be a small support
building (2,000 sqft) to house park staff and public restrooms as well as a parking lot for approx. 400 vehicles.

You are going to be asked where is the $ going to come from??? First get on your County Commissioner's Court adgenda. Call Muncie to ask
who is currently responsible for flying field $ assistance. Your club must create a formal development committee to achieve this. The more
senior club members the better...large numbers...will be required...not three of four bodies. This will work unless someone at existing location
has smart mouthed the City/COE/ or Commissioner's Court.

You need the entire club development committee to show up the day of the Commissioner's Court meeting you are permitted to be on adgenda...
At this point in my post it should be obvious I have been involved in this process several times. You need to include Chris and Larry Wolfe to
witness the diversity of the sport of R/C ;^)

Sorry to stur up a hornets nest guys.
All your input needs to go to someone who can "make it happen". I'm thinking the feds are in charge of the dirt, maybe fire a few at Washington. And along the way get the AMA activated.

Don't forget the runway proximity to Van Nuys Airport. Apollo field is dealing with a 250' ceiling as it is. Moving closer to the airport will make a big difference.

There is so much to the problem, we are not sticking to the spirit of this site.
It was just a friendly "Heads UP".

We are Scale builders and building drives this forum.

No hornet's nest. Sounds like you are the tip of the spear since you took the time to reach out for help. I provided info on
who is the decision maker (municipal) for where you will be permitted to relocate and how to properly approach the relief
you seek. Yes, there are multiple airports. I identified additional locations within 15 to 20 miles from Apollo.

Making this happen is not initiated outside of your LA municipal Supervisor's area of authority. That is where it begins and
ends. Unless local acceptance of a possible location...going above this level is a waste of time and energy. Your official relief
is the COE. There is little more than this. If the COE sees/hears Supervisor's opinion ...it will not be ignored.

Regardless of where, an environmental impact study will be mandated unless location already has had one (water reservoir).

This is easily achieved...it "requires" senior club represenetation in the club relief committee to hedge on Municipal empathy.
