Welcome Ralf, you will find that there are a excellent group of craftsmen on this site.  I always learn something each day.  I spent 4 year years in your beautiful country at Bittberg, your RC Modelers made me welcome to their flying fields.  Many wonderful hours flying.

Ralf,

Welcome.

I know what you mean. I'm building a Toni Clark Sopwith Pup and don't understand German. I have a set of instructions written thirty years ago in English but the kit and the German instructions have changed over the years. Thank goodness for Google Translate.

Ralph, On behalf of another relatively new member, welcome.

I think you will find this site forum very informative, as I have.

I too have spent some time and lived in Germany, although many years ago (1988-1989) while working as a contractor on a USAF base (Spangdahlem AB). I loved every minute of my time spent in your country, but unfortunately have not been back since then.

I just recently started a scratch build of a 1:7 Spitfire Mk IX from Tony Nijhuis plans. I am having a good time with it. I started trying to be ever so precise with everything, but have come to the conclusion that this needs to be fun and does not need to have the tolerances of a real aircraft and mass production. So I have relaxed my expectations of perfection and plan that the model will be a "sport scale" version that ultimately ends up teaching me many different skill to build model airplanes. Of humorous example is planking. Read up on it here and have successfully made 2 beer kegs that fit under-wing on my Spit. Look up the Mk XXX and you see a few pictures of how important a part of life beer is. All this talk is making me want a Bitburger beer .

Jump in, learn some skill, have fun, make mistakes, fix them and you'll have a plane in-front of you before you even know it.

Thanks,
