Doing some investigating here.  It seems RCU members can no longer close/delete their accounts.  And the powers that be refuse to do it claiming they don't want people to complain on other forums that their accounts were closed.

I argue that closing a dormant account is a matter of personal cyber security.  But it falls on deaf ears.  So it seem in order to avoid unwanted gossip, all accounts remain open and capable of being logged in to.

My concern is one of ethics.  I can see where the number of active accounts could be used to set fees for advertisers.  "We have XXX accounts to expose to your adds."  Keeping dormant accounts open will artificially inflate the numbers reported and used to set those advertising fees.  Thus ending up charging more for advertisers.  Not a smart business practice if you ask me.

App,

Here, here. Great investigation done. I am not a member but I’ve hesrd many things both good & otherwise. Glad you brought it into light. Perhaps if more people joined in, the powers that be might relent & see the light.

Good show.

Yes an advertising scheme most likely.
I had not looked at the site for some time but a few months ago I searched for an old build thread I knew was there
The ads were so bad and they would pop up and cover the text I was trying to read
I gave up and left the site
Don’t know how it is surviving since it isn’t user friendly

Well, should anyone need them, I have the name and address of the CEO of the company that owns the forum.  Internet Brands LLC.  I also have the names and addresses of the CO-CEOs of the company that owns Internet Brands.

And for the guy who started this thread, FYI your account is still active over there.

Just an FYI for anyone interested.  I contacted the CEO of Internet Brands and explained my case.  He then directed RCU to close out my account as I asked.  Turns out RCU was in violation of Corporate policy as well.  Great grumbling and posturing later, the Admin made it sound like it was their decision and finally closed my account and marked it as banned.

Over 20 years in IT with 10 of it in security on classified government networks.  From my experiences I take my online security seriously.  And I expect any place requiring a log in from me to respect my concerns.

There is no web site out there I can not live without.

Try a snail mail to this guy:

Robert Brisco, CEO
Internet Brands Inc.
909 N Sepulveda Blvd  11th Floor
El Segundo, CA  90245

I'd also mention to him how the admins fail to respond to your e-mails.
