It was suggested by a couple of guys that I should post details of my latest creation on RCSB. This is a 1/4 Scale 85" Dennis Bryant SE5A.

I had decided that I wanted something different in terms of a colour scheme so chose to model a red SE5A flown by Captain Les Holden MC with the Australian Flying Corps No.2 Squadron No. 6 Flying School England.

It came out a lot heavier than I would have wished (26 pounds) due to a lot of scale detail in the tail area necessitating a heap of lead in the nose. However, the motor is up to the task and it is very solid in the air with no vices.

Engine is a OSGF30 Gas Four Stroke. Covering is Sig Koverall, ribs are stitched and rib tapes is stripped Koveral. Paint is auto acrylic.

The SE5A is a dream to fly. Landings are very easy as even at this weight it is a floater.

Plenty of power. More than enough to loop the aircraft. Just like the real one rolls are so so. Need a bit of rudder but not too much as the rudder is very effective.

Nice job Graeme !  Looks like yours has the Hispano Suissa set up instead of Wolsley Viper?

My David Boddington 1/4 SE5 came out also at 26 lbs with all the detail and, like you, still had to add lead up front.

Mine doesn't feel like a floater yet...still getting used to faster landing than I would prefer but flying is rock steady.

Good luck with your fine creation !

Eric

Back from the Invitational Scale Classic Downunder. A great weekend with a great bunch of guys. Managed a second in Masters with the SE5A.

Still having some overheating problems. May retire the aircraft to rallies where less demands are asked of the engine.

My mate Bruce Doc. in his first scale event picked up a third in Masters and also pilots choice "Model of the Meet" with his Mew Gull.
