The maiden flight of Sabin's Eindecker with a Saito 56 4 stroke and Solartex covering. Flies great! Who says kids don't build airplanes anymore?

He did indeed. He started out with the Guillows and Revell kits and kind of took off from there. It took him a while but he managed to finish it. I'd sure like to see more kids building and flying, it teaches them all sorts of valuable skills.

Agree, that's why whenever my girls come down and want to "build" a doll house from a balsa sheet, I let them. Saw, knife, glue and imagination.

The plane looks great again!

good going and many congrats for Sabin!.. .You must be proud!  Those Revel and Guillow kits are great to get kids into building....and yes can really just take off from there.  I remember loving those as a kid and they really got me into planes more and more.

a quick Side note on the kid note and building on this thread....I did a volunteer trip to Haiti last year and taught basic aviation to some kids at a small village school way up in the mountains.  I called up Guillows and brought 100 small planes stashed in another suitcase with me...those kids just loved it and have never been exposed to it.  I had Creole translater and tried to show the basics as we put together the planes and then flew them and tweaked them for trim and good straight flight. Some classes were older kids and we had the little rubber band motors too.

We did little contests for furthest flight and best trim of plane to fly straight...many of the girls won.

I think this hobby is a superb one and we need to get more youth into building and understanding of how the work pays off and not just instant gratification.

I think a lot of kids will really eat this info up if exposed to it...yes lots of valuable skills with all of it.....I'm sure Sabin will go far with it and influence many kids his age too by being into the hobby.

Love to see some video of his flying of the cool scale monoplane.

best,'
Matt

Matt,
Stunning work!
I can imagine the things you were telling the kids was like a Martin landing here and trying to explain time travel.
Maybe a spark was lit..... And much fun too!

Yeah it was a real learning experience for me , and I think kids just like Sabin can really help it along and keep the spirit alive. A few kids I met there wanted to become a full scale pilot .

What's is Sabin next build?
