G'day all,

I've just paid the membership fee after a year of lurking, more to support this excellent resource than for any other reason.

I've been in the hobby for a couple of years so my abilities are humbling compared with the standard regularly displayed here.  Nonetheless, I will strive to improve.

For something a little different, here is my one completed scale build, scratch built from a Clive Smalley plan out of a 1981 RCM&E magazine.   It's stand-off scale, 34" wing span, powered by a 0.15ci two stroke glow engine with 3 channel radio.  Construction is balsa and ply, wings are balsa skinned and fuselage is planked.  The whole is covered with kitchen alfoil.

It's a very tough construction as it hit the deck hard a few times during initial launches without any serious damage.  It flies like crazy and is super fast and twitchy like a Rare Bear racer.  I've sorted out the handling with a lot of expo and it's a lot of fun.  I've also just completed a launching vehicle with its own receiver and steerable tailwheel as it requires 2 hands for launching.

Build log is here for anybody interested in a copy of plans or more details.

My current project is a Proctor VK 1/6 Camel which will be in the livery of the Australian Flying Corp.

Cheers!

Sweet looking little buddy.  How did you apply the foil?

Hi Scott, I found that a water based resin did the best job followed by gently working out the air bubbles, which weren't a big problem.

And lots of patience.  And mistakes.

I think the resin is called Ezekote, it's really nice to use.

Beautiful little bird! I love the foil finish, I had never heard of that! Don't be so modest about your abilities, your foil trick is something I have never seen anywhere.

I have been building modelers for over 45 years and I am still learning, I hope I never stop picking up little tid-bits and tricks from modelers like you and I try to build every model better than the last!

Hey, I think that's fantastic!

I've built and flown a million "little" planes, and I still love smaller planes. I've never built one that looked as nice as yours.

That's a fantastic result with the alfoil!!!
