Thanks, guys. I'm going to take it out again soon to see if I fixed the aileron twitch problem. I got a 20g "Y" connector with an RF choke in it for the main connection to the receiver. I think the long leads and extra Y connections to the upper and lower wings might be picking up some noise from the ignition module. At least, that's my guess.

I'll try and get some video of it flying.

Jim

Yikes!!!!!
If this is a 2.4 system I know JR says not use the amplified/choked y connector. I would infer that the F brand would be the same. I run a separate channel for all my ailerons, it gives me the flexibly to trim each servo independently reflex etc.
Glad you haven't had any big issues other then the big lump in your throat when it acts on its own.
FYI what motor and what kill switch setup do you have.
Sparky

Hi Sparky,  thanks for the input.

It's a Hitec radio. The "Y" is not the amplified type, just with RF choke and 20g wire. I put it all together and everything works fine but I haven't tried it with the engine running yet. I have another "Y" which has no choke but is also 20g wire.

I hadn't thought about using separate channels. If the heavier gauge "Y" doesn't fix the problem I'll try that. (I might just do that anyway)

The engine is a Fuji 64 EI and the kill switch is a heavy-duty R/C switch. The aileron twitching was only at low throttles.

Jim

I love Bi-planes and the Golden age of Aviation. Just now finishing my design for the the Curtiss F11C-2 Goshawk. She is 1:4 scale, waiting for my cutter to get me a quote on the cut and I post the news on my web site. I think she will look as nice as the Siemens-Schuckert D.III

Where did you get the plans and short kit for this biplane?

I got them from Dave Johnson, aka. "cocobear".

Update:

I replaced the electronic ignition Fuji 64 engine with a magneto one that I had, and ran it in the back yard. The radio was solid as a rock and there were no gitches whatsoever.  I've since found out that Fuji EI systems are notoriously noisy and I'm going to replace it with an RCXL one and put it in another plane. I love the Fuji 64 engines...it's too bad the EI systems are bad.  The magneto versions are awesome....easy to hand start and lots of power.

I feel much better now and I'm eager to fly the SSW again soon!

Jim

I flew the SSW last week and the radio was rock-solid with the magneto engine. I flew it without the spinner because it wasn't balanced yet.

One of the club members shot some video and posted it on Youtube:

Today, I ran the other engine with the new RCXL ignition on a test stand and it ran great. Hopefully, it won't cause any RF interference like the stock ignition did.

Here are a few pictures of the SSW flying at the Ohio Dawn Patrol last month. I had a dead stick landing when I forgot to gas it up before a flight.  At least I know it glides well!  It suffered a slightly bent axle but that was soon repaired and I flew it several more times at the event
