Mike Barbee (USA) and his 1/4 scale Hawker Fury, geared (maybe belt drive?) electric power.  Scratch built from plans based on Gwyn's Fury.  I didn't realize his eyes were closed when I took the picture 

Niklas Blomquist (SWE) and his 1/9.2 Grumman F7F Tigercat, electric powered.  This is a foamy that's been nicely detailed and finished.  You don't have to spend 5 years building a plane for the WC.

Lucien Gerard (LUX) with his 1/4 scale FanJet 600, Wren 44 turboprop power.  This is a nice model of a very challenging subject and it flies really nicely.  

Peter Goff (AUS) with a 1/4 scale DH-82A Tigermoth, ASP 180 power.  Peter flew it very well in wind you wouldn't fly a full size Tigermoth in.

Mika Jylha (jylhami) (FIN) with his 1/3.5 scale Gloster Gamecock MKII.  Issues with the Laser 360V forced a last minute engine change to a UMS radial.

Walter Keller (GER) with his 1/2.5 Fournier RF4D, electric power.  Despite being a motorglider it flew surprisingly well in the big wind.  I think it has the largest wingspan here at 177".

David Knott (GBR) with a 1/6th scale Hurricane MkI, Laser 120 powered.  Yet another stolen photo, team GB must have been hiding their planes when I came through.

Nigel Nixon (GBR) with a 1/4.35 scale RAF Tucano T1, DualSky 6600 electric power.  A very heavily modified ARF that looks great in the air, and Nigel flies it very nicely.

Keith Numbers (USA) with his 1/3rd scale FE8, Roto 85 power.  Keith designed and scratch built this one.  

Radoslaw Oleksy (POL) and his 1/3.3 Fokker DR1, Saito FG61 power.  It tackled the big wind surprisingly well

Paul Andreas (GER) and his 1/3.3 DH60 Gipsy Moth, not sure about power.

Ektor Pergamalis (hpergm) (GRE) and his 1/3rd scale 415-C Ercoupe, Saito FG-61 power.  July's Model of the Month.  Hector has a build thread here about this one, it's worth checking out.  LINKY  I assure you it looks even better in person.  Hector is flying it very well and is high up in the rankings.

One thing that won't be better is the wind, it is too windy to fly a full scale F24 but we will persist.  This weather definitely gives the jets and other heavy, fast planes and advantage.  Currently the top 3 in both classes are either jets, fighters, or David Law with a Pitts S2B.  

Static is finished except for F4C, I'm up first tomorrow and they should be finished with everyone by 2 or so.  F4C static takes about an hour per plane so it takes a while to get through 38 of them.  Not sure when they'll post the scores but I'll put them here if I can.

Also Whitney gets here tomorrow afternoon so maybe there can be some actual goings on posted here

Great to spend time with John Carpenter and Richard Crapp talking about flying maneuvers and engines as you do, Richard kept going over how stunning Ben Andrus's aircraft was, maybe i'll take a closer look on Thursday as i'm there again....

Jeff- I'll ask about the paint.  From about 5' away you can see some orange peel here and there and you get the idea that it's not polished aluminum.  But when it's streaking by it really looks the part.  And you don't have to polish it all the time 

Dave- There is definitely no way that anyone would fly full sized a powered box kite like that in this kind of wind, Keith absolutely did an excellent job with it.  It's also a good advertisement for Roto motors, he had that 85 at full throttle the entire time to just barely make any headway.  I was waiting for it to come apart but it held in there.  The winds are supposed to be lighter Thursday but due to my low flight scores I may be doing my last flight tomorrow, the schedule isn't up yet.

So as you can tell it was very windy again today, but maybe just a bit less than the last 2 days.  I didn't see them measuring the wind speed every 10 minutes today like they had been.  But it was still very challenging for the slower planes.  However, everyone is managing the wind at least OK, there weren't any planes damaged today that I know of.  

It's also been a better day for Team USA, we had 4 flights today and everyone was able to complete theirs without any mechanical issues, which was a first.  Mike Barbee put in a very nice flight with the Fury and cut his ranking number at least in half.  In round 1 Jack Buckley had the cylinder on his Saito FG21 come loose and break, severely reducing the power and ending his flight.  His son rode the train to Leeds last night and was waiting at the door at the Leeds Hobby shop this morning.  He got the new FG21 and hopped on the train back down.  They got it installed and run in a bit and Jack was able to fly in round 2.  Of course it was entirely too windy for a plane like that but Jack managed it well.

I finally static'd and they did finish static but the scores haven't been released yet.  After some more engine adjustments I tuned it a bit rich, combined with not using full throttle all the time kept the engine cool and running for the entire flight.  It was windier than I would fly a full scale F24 but it handled it ok.  It got so slow during landing that I thought it was going to stop going forward before it touched the ground but I was able to keep a bit of groundspeed on touchdown.  The wind is strong but it's pretty well aligned with the runway and it's reasonably smooth, I only got rocked once right after takeoff. 

As I said, I may fly again tomorrow but I don't know yet.  I'm hoping my static score is enough to put me into the Thursday group but we'll see.
