'One fatality was caused by a serviceman who fell twenty feet to the ground when exiting the toilet, unaware that the paratroop hatch had been opened. ' is a dubious claim to fame

That's a nasty example of Murphy's Law.

Not Murphy's law.
The law of gravity. It's not the fall that kills you it's the sudden stop at the end.

No Idea how that shot in the dark worked but maybe it's because that plane had been built here on RCSB and was quite unusual.
So Now for something completely different......
Give me a little bit of time....

Oh Sorry I broke my own rule 24 hrs to post clues.
1. Famous airplane type
2. Less than a thousand built
3. Single pilot but some trainers were built from some planes that were written off.
4. Conceived on the back of a napkin modifying an already existing airplane. (they really didn't look similar)
5. Designation temporarily changed due to political gamesmanship.

How did you get that?
Yes the U-2 is what I'm after.
I had a whole bunch more clues lined up n my head!
Did you know that Taiwan China operated them in? They left 5 in China, from another source I learned the pilots would eject before the missile hit them?
All told they crashed 11 of them! and around 100 were built!
Kelly Johnson proposed putting long wings on an F-104 back of the napkin.
