Hello All,
I have just finished and test flew my BUSA 1/3rd scale Dr.-1.   Construction started on October of 2017 and the first flights happened on Sunday July 29th.  Some of the markings need to be finished, but I couldn't wait to fly it.
It uses a Zenoah G-62 for power and a Futaba CAP7 2.4 GHz radio with hitec 645MG servos.
Finish is SIG Koveral, Minwax Polycrylic, Behr latex and rustoleum spray can paint.  The colors are that Dr.-1 flown by Ltn. Werner Steinhauser of Jasta 11.
Weight, well I don't really know, I did not weigh it.  But, It required no weight in the nose to balance at the cg as shown on the plans.
I got four take offs and four landings on maiden flight day.  Needed a couple of clicks of left aileron and four clicks of down elevator for hands off flight at half throttle.  its been a great build and its going to be a great flier.

  Mike

Mike,

Nice job on the plane and congrats on your successful flights. I bet the ground handling is better than the 1/4 scale version!

Thanks foodstick.  I wasn't trying to keep the tail light, it just worked out that way.  Fact is, after flying it I think it might need just a touch of weight in the nose, elevator is kind of sensitive.  Not dangerously so but noticeable.  A little fine tuning needed.
Its on page 41 of the Osprey book  "Richthofen's Circus"  of the Aviation Elite Units series.
I'll try to get some video next time I fly it.
  Mike

Thanks Jim, the butterflies were doing the can-can just before takeoff, at least they were keeping a cadence (left right left)
I can say that it seems like this one is harder to get to tip over than the 1/4 scale.  I did not do a whole lot of fooling around on the ground. One quick high speed taxi to make sure the wheels were going to stay on then I just launched her.  Seems like it tracks on the takeoff roll better than the 1/4 scale.
I think I would have enjoyed the build a lot more if I did not hate scalloped trailing edges so much
  Mike

Thanks Art,  sadly I have not had another chance to fly her since the maiden.  I did finish the markings and touched up the paint.
Next time will most likely be at GCRCC's "Wings of War" fly in at the end of the month.
