Hello All,

My name is Bob. I live in burbs of Seattle, WA.

I relatively new to this forum as well. Once I saw all the great projects it was a no-brainer to join.

I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and have loved planes since I was a tyke.

I'm primarily interested in WW1 and WW2 models, but all things flying are of interest.

I have a Proctor 1/4 scale D7, Albatros D5a, and (1/5) Nieuport 11 to be built. Also a 1/4 Mick Reeves Pup and Camel, and Dennis Bryant SE5. I'm stocking up now for my future <hopeful in 10 years > retirement - so that I have something to do!

I also enjoy metal working, CNC machining, 3D design (Solidworks, Inventor, AutoCAD), and 3D printing etc. I may be able to help those trying to make their own stuff. I have a full shop of woodworking tools. Wood, metal and plastic are all my friends.

The one thing I am lacking tho is experience building flying model airplanes! Looking forward to learning all I can from this site.

I hope to start my build of the Nieuport 11 soon.

Thanks for the welcome. Cool - always dreamed of being jet rider. But corrected vision put an end to that early on. I had to settle for being an engineer -LOL. I did get some real plane piloting time a long time ago. My flight instructor was an ex-Navy pilot. He had a lot of hilarious stories and choice words for Air Force pilots (***not to be repeated here***) - we flew out of Air Force Academy Aero Club. I'm hoping RC flying can satisfy that love of flying that didn't quite get realized.

Are you still in area?

Actually I'm not the best flier yet (intending on correcting that). I'm still smashing up park fliers -aka "learning". I may be one of those builders who has to have someone else do the flying.

I live close to the Marymoor Park field in Redmond, WA. There is a local club that meets there.

Hey Bob, welcome to RCSB! I am sure you will enjoy your time here - it sounds as if you have all the requisite skills you could possibly need to build a model!

I would advise you not to wait 10 years though! Once you master coming towards you and going away, get a bigger airplane, they are easier to fly!

You might want to look at the Winter build for the N11 - he has made a jig for capstripiing the ribs which will make it go much faster - he only wants shipping costs for it (around $15 to CA, probably close to that to you). I was going to get it, but I am a year or more from starting mine.

With all your areas of expertise you won't ever tire out of things to make in this hobby ! Its a shame you don't live closer I would help give you more ideas than you have now, oh and IMPRESSIVE kit collection you have started !

A friend of mine who has built many Proctor kits has said he would be happy to pay someone to build the ribs, so this would make things both quicker and easier! He also says the best glue to use on the ribs is Duco.
