Don, The FAI wait limits are 15 kg in both C & H, about 33 lb. That is a dry waight. or whitout propulsion batteries in the case of electric.
This 15 kg is quite strictly aplied. My model was official weighed 3 times. It got lighter etch time as the sun dried it out after an English winter. Ended up 200 gm under.

Notice there is an open G competition as well. That can go up to 25 kg (i think) You can't be World Champion of G because it is not a class adopted by FAI but it dose enable you to be their and enjoy the event just the same. 10 entered G.
There is even a J class that is meant for Team.

The Australian team were magnificent. A huge long jurney. Lovely models. Best looking supporters. Nole Whithead's CT4 closly related to my Air Tourer interested me.
David's Top Static amazing when you remember there were at least 4 past World Champions in there. He was only 100 points out of 5000 behind the winner.
Australia also got the Team Silver. Like ours, the team medals are much appreciated.

My pall David Toyer with his Messenger also got Top static in H. Although the results don't show it.
Some careful re-jigging of his document presentation paid off.

into some very respectable size models given the airframe mass is reduced accordingly.

Electric power for a 5th scale is not expensive to convert to. Mass reduction is easy to achieve by
simply reducing everything by 25 to 30% thickness offset with carbon tissue aka veil.

It is adhered with any adhesive and yields excellent strength exceeding the 30% reduction in mass with
virtually "NO" gain in weight... :) Used to bridge, gusset, double, form around, laminate....etc... :)

I don't want to clutter up this thread. I was just wondering...But there's no hope that my current build will be under 33lbs...and I have no interest at this time in building large scale electrics...I find them terrifying.

This is BoBo's Mustang, not particularly accurate but dose not have to be for F4H if flown well.
I think it is a Fibre Classics kit.

Don, There is always F4g . Dry weight 20 kg Max T/O weight 25 kg.

The important thing is to be their. One entered you are treated exactly the same so for instance if there is a USA F4c and maybe some F4h you would simply be an extra team member.
You may not get US financial support for an open competition but then the entry fee is half and you do not have to qualify.

A Problem is as models get bigger and heavier it is more difficult fly to another country.
The solution that I have used several times to get to Top Gun is to use British Airways outsize baggage allowance. Etch adult can take a 23 kg box 73" long and more than 24" square.
There is currently NO charge for this although a extra suitcase is UKP60 $90
You can still also take 2 x 23 kg hand luggage!

So if you can split your model down into several boxes, even take the engine out your are off!
I can provide more details on box technology and other things.
Beg and borrow starters, batteries, pumps etc when you get there.

If you use Major tourist airports in US (Orlando, LA, etc) fairs this week are 600 ukp or aboyt $900

It's all certainly something to consider. Considering that there is a huge lake in the way...I guess I can understand why it's never caught much interest over here. But the issue of travel has certainly NOT stood in the way of everyone. There are ways to "Make it Happen". There are always Brits and Ossys and Kiwis at Top Gun, and as you say...there was a good contingent present from Oz at the Worlds.

If I were to ever make the trip, I would be more interested in F4C, as it's the hardest, and comes with the greatest opportunity for FAILURE.

I doubt that my plane would be competitive, so perhaps F4H makes more sense, since static is a smaller percentage of the end score.
