lol, as we don't have any military over here I sometimes use army as a catch all when referring to the armed forces of other countries or used to...
I once used it when asking a modeler I had just met, he wasn't to happy with that association, turned out he was a in the Navy stationed at a certain base I'm sure Carl knows quite well

In times of crisis, the President will ask his Joint Chiefs, "Where is the nearest carrier?"

And the answer is "In port getting drunk and chasing women of ill repute"!

Ron,

When you said that I started to hear the "Anchors Aweigh" playing in my head...

Glenn,

The truth is, my dad is an Air Force vet.  I was inspired to become an aircrewman while walking through an AC-130 at age 15 with my dad.  If I thought that I would have had any chance of being an AC-130 crewman (only one or two squadrons of these things!!), I would have joined the AF.  The aircrew program in the Navy was much more of a sure thing.

Sverrir,

I think one thing that the Air Force Boys, and the Navy Boys can all agree on is a disdain for those Army "fellows".

Your post reminds me how fond I was of Iceland!!  A beautiful country!!

Andrew,

I have to say, he looks pretty sharp...  even if he is an airman.

Cheers - to all veterans!

Carl

Well, since this fun thread has gone slightly off topic already,

I'd like to share a picture of a retired air force family friend.........

This is ex-RAF "Squadron Leader Ian Godbolt" on a recent visit to my house. He is one of a very few living heros from the Battle of Britain era. He flew Spitfires and then on to Typhoons. He survived being shot down and more recently a battle with cancer. Still sharp minded, sharp dressed, and driving flashy cars!

And he still looks like a Spitfire pilot!

Cheers, Nigel
