Hi all,

Hope everyone on this side of the equator has a build project planned as the days get shorter and the temperatures slowly drop. Here in the southeastern US we have about another month of flying then time to dust off that project in the shop and get building!

This month's site news is about sharing your building experiences with others. While a lot of members generously share their knowledge and experiences building their projects on RCSB, the vast majority are "lurkers" or just watching and not participating. To illustrate this let me throw some numbers at you:

As of October 1st:
Number of members: 15,741
Number of member with posts: 3,781
Number of members without posts: 11,960
Percentage of members have never posted on RCSB: %75.98

I cannot begin to express how important a resource like RCSB is to R/C Scale builders and flyers. Not saying that to promote the site but to share with those who may not know how much people get out of the site. Every week I get several emails from members who are thankful for the site. This is not because of anything I have done, but completely because of YOU GUYS, the community of all the members that post their work and share their good and bad experiences as they build.

I hear from a lot of folks "they have nothing to share because they are not experienced enough to contribute anything". NOT TRUE! We all can learn from each other no matter what your skill level. Also, if you are just beginning and don't have anyone close by to help mentor you doing a build thread is a great way to get help.

So while you are getting ready to start that build please consider doing a build thread here on RCSB. It doesn't take that much time and the rewards are more than you can ever know as others learn from your experiences.

Until Next Month,
Mike

Mike is 100% correct as usual. My DC-3 in the Ziroli section was my 1st scratch build, 1st fiberglass, 1st paint, many more 1st's.... and starting a thread is the only reason I was able to get the help I needed along the way to make my project a success. Also made a few good friends along the way.

Many don't post thinking its a lot of work. Not so I find. Here is how I do it.

As I build I take pics along the way. If it's something that needs step-step them more pics are taken. I just use my I-phone for the pics. When I'm taking a break, waiting for glue or paint to dry or at the end of the day, I e-mail them to myself then open the file on my lap top and download the pics. Use photo razor to size them then post the pics to the thread typing a narrative along the way. If it's a long post it may take 5-mins.

By running a build thread I find it helps keep me motivated to make progress, I get many more views on how to do something and its easy to ask questions as i go and get quality answers from those with more experience than I.

For those that don't post a lot of pics in you thread......we need pics to keep us following your build. My wife calls it "airplane porn"

But threads with out pics simply don't get the attention around here is my point. So post a bunch.

Yep. What Mark said.

It doesn't take long to chuck up an update of some variety with a couple of pics of your progress.

What I do love about this site is the advice you get but also it's a good feeling when someone like Mike and Mark above or any number of far more experienced people on here put up a comment like "your doing a great job" or "your build is looking great". It gives you the motivation to keep going and try things you haven't tried before.

People reading this that haven't posted or done a thread. Get to it and get 'er done
