After 30+ years of purchasing my batteries from SR Batteries, it looks like they're history.

Web site gone, phone no longer in service. Never had a failure with their batteries. I guess nicads have faded into the past.

Jay,
Spend some time looking at the BS batteries web site Red explains everything and they will get you up to speed on LiFe batteries. You will have to buy a suitable charger but otherwise this is a much better power source than the old technology.
I buy A123 "type" batteries from many different sources and have Never had an issue with these batteries. I know the A123 is a trade mark and in a can. Most of mine are in the bag style and not exactly A123 but all are LiFe chemistry.
For my sport planes the Hobby King 700 Mah is the choice. I know it was a bit of a shift in thinking but we have never had a issue. Maybe 12-14 packs in use at our field.
For the bigger more serious airplanes I run dual packs from 1800 Mah or larger depending on the price. The last set was from Motion RC no issues.
LiFe batteries are smaller, lighter, cheaper and hold a charge and recharge in 20 minutes. Don't leave the switch on, it isn't good to run them dead. We toss them at that point some have resurrected but at <$10 toss them.
For a charger a Cell Pro 4 is a great choice, you charge exclusively through the Balance plug which is a huge plus less wires to the plane the only charger that i know that does that.
Most of the bigger chargers have the LiFe charge programs too but you need more wires to balance charge.

I took me some time to come to speed with batteries, never had issues with NiCds, and I too used to get them from SR , but eventually I switched got new chargers and life is good. Point is Jay....time to upgrade buddy, you’ll be happy with the new batteries.

It took me a while to get comfortable with the LiFe batteries and now it's a no brainier.
I've even loaned them to a student when he shows up with a trainer and NiCad batteries and hasn't a clue on the charge state. I just plug in a spare pack I have on hand and off I go for the session.
About the only thing that you cant do is tell the charge state with a load meter, the curve is too flat.
Experience will tell you how many flights you can make before a recharge is needed. I figure about 1/2 the rated Mah is all you want to do so a little 700 pack should take around 350-400 to fully balance charge.
For me that's an entire of day of pylon racing, sport flying.
The dual packs in my giant scale are good for 10 flights before I charge so at a flyin every other day or when ever you take the wing off. Remember it only takes 20-30 minutes to charge a pack!
I don't charge through the combo switch and charge port nor do I bind through that anymore. It's to easy to mess that up (brain fade) and then the smoke comes out! I've been there and done that
