Great site I stumbled upon. I'm getting ready to tack my first scale project. I've got experience building smaller stuff. Looking to build a Spitire or P-40 and am prepared to go all out. Which plans designer would be the most realistic and which one is easier to build Bates or Taylor

The Brian Taylor is the most scale when it comes to Spits.  I have one of his kits, sorta.  The kit is cut by Bob Holman and  the fuse, canopy etc is glass and made and sold by Vicrc.com

Jerry's P-40 kit is also sold by VicRc.  At least the glass parts are.  I think you would be pleased with either one.

Hello,

I have had the same question and came to the conclusion that Brian Taylor's spitfire is most accurate spitfire.

He has drawn the MK I (1/6.4) and MK IX (1/5.3). I'm building the MK I (battle of britain) which i prefer above the

other types. Lasercut kits from Bob Holman are great, very light wood and he's a very friendly and helpfull guy.

Canopy, spinner and cowl can be ordered by Traplet (UK). Brian Taylor's construction is more easy to build because

of the two sidepannel appoach instead of frames and several longerons. There are threads here on

rcscalebuilder to help you throught the process of building.

 

The ultimate spitfire MK I-V has been drawn by Yke Rusticus (The Netherlands ;) it's simply the best!

After building 2 BT MkIA's, I'm sold on them.  In the air appearance is very scale.  At 10# all up weight the plane (electric) flies very well at scale speeds.  It sips power, an important feature for e-power.  The wing is big, about 850 sq. in.  It does tend to nose over easily, just like the full scale.  This model of this plane is great.
