I am working on refinishing a Ziroli P51 which was modified into a B model by the original builder. He had used a Ziroli P40 canopy but I would like to add the Malcom hood as I refinish it. Does anyone by chance know of a source for a canopy of the right scale for this model?

I am afraid I will have to make my own, but I thought it worth a shot. Thanks.

I have recentley started on a Ziroli Dc-3, which will be my first build from plans. I am 16 years old, and relatively new to building, so when I first considerd the Dc-3, I wasnt sure if I would be able to tackle the project. However, in the two weeks since I have started, I have made some progress, and have really enjoyed the challange of building without instructions. My most recent build (and largest) was a Great Planes Piper Cub 40, so I have certainly learned alot thus far, but, after reading through many of the threads on this site, it became clear to me that I could benifit greatly from the help of the countless experienced builders here. I will be asking lots of questions, but I hope that through hearing what other builders have to say, I can become a better builder myself, and make a model that I can be proud of.

As for the airplane, I have a decent picture of what I want the finished product to be. It will be electric, and, after hearing about how the model tends to build tail-heavy, I have been taking steps to lighten the airframe wherever possible. My goal is to have it balance without using any nose weight, which should be possible if I put the batteries as far forward as they can go. It will likely be finished as a green C-47 in a D-Day invasion scheme, though I have'nt decided exactly which full scale plane I will model it after. I have been in to airplanes in some form all my life, and I have always wanted to do a really big one. With college about 2 years away, now seemed like the time, and thus I began the long journey to (hopefully) building one of my favorite airplanes.

More to come soon

I am not surprised I didn't see any hands raised. Let me introduce you to yet another unfamiliar WW1 fighter. The Vickers F.B.19 started life being called the "Bullett" and went through many modifications before reaching the MK II type. In it's final form it was powered by the 110hp Clerget 9z or Le Rhone 9j rotary engines. The subject I have picked used the Clerget. A unique feature was the Vickers gun mounted on the side of the fuselage which fired through a hole in the cowl. It used a Vickers-Challenger gear, synchronizing system. The F.B.19 MKII was used in the middle east and the bird I will build was flown by 111 Sqn. I am told that sometime next year there will be a new Datafile released on the Vickers E.S.1 and F.B.19 so if you find this aircraft appealing be sure to pick up a copy. My model will be finished in PC12 and gray much like the attached photo of the Bristol M1c which served in the Middle East as well. My model in 1/3 scale will have a W/S of 96" and the length will be 69 1/2". It will weigh 30-35 lbs. With the assistance of Ron Prestin a G62 will be used to shake down the model but the plan is to use a G38 with Tony Clark reduction system. I have to thank Henri Kaper for again putting up with my ever changing mind and enlarging the 3-view which comes from the J.M.Bruce Fighters book. This 3-view will be the basis of my building plan. Today, I committed to this build and sent the wing rib CAD file to Bob Holman and I thank him for his continued help. Thanks to Seth Hunter for providing the CAD file. Seth is an expert builder and you can find his builds over at RCU. His current project is a 1/3 Halberstadt. Ron Prestin has been a big help with the design and his all around expertise. Thanks Ron! Well. that's all for now. Here are a couple of pic's and I'll be posting more as the build progresses. Stay tuned! Oh, and please feel free to ask questions.
